Dust at Dusk: First Race

Ruto Fills the Seat More Warmer and Better

The political landscape in Emurua Dikirr came alive yesterday as residents participated in the highly watched parliamentary by-election that ended with a victory for the UDA candidate, Keter.

The contest attracted national attention, with many political observers viewing it as an early test of the continued influence of President William Ruto and the strength of the ruling United Democratic Alliance at the grassroots level.
From morning until late evening, polling stations across the constituency experienced heavy activity as voters turned out in large numbers to decide who would take over the parliamentary seat. Supporters from rival camps campaigned passionately, turning the by-election into more than just a winning

As results streamed in, celebrations erupted within the UDA camp after Keter emerged victorious, a result many interpreted as a significant political boost for President Ruto’s administration. Leaders allied to the government described the outcome as proof that the ruling coalition continues to enjoy support among ordinary wananchi despite ongoing economic and political debates nationwide.

The victory speech focused on unity, development, and service delivery. Keter promised to prioritize roads, youth empowerment, education, and economic opportunities for the people of Emurua Dikirr. Residents who spoke after the announcement expressed hope that the new MP would focus on practical leadership rather than political confrontations.
Political analysts noted that the Emurua Dikirr race may shape future political alignments within the Rift Valley region and beyond. The by-election served as a reminder that local elections in Kenya increasingly carry national political significance, especially when major parties invest heavily in campaigns and mobilization.

Social media discussions throughout the day reflected the intensity of the race, with supporters celebrating the outcome while opponents called for stronger strategies ahead of future contests. For the Kenya Kwanza alliance, however, the victory was viewed as a morale booster and a sign that the government’s message still resonates with sections of the electorate.
As darkness fell and celebrations filled parts of Emurua Dikirr, the dust of the campaign season slowly settled. What remains now is the expectation from voters that leadership will translate promises into action and bring meaningful development to the constituency.

As Kenyans brace for the reading of the 2025/26 national budget, the country stands on the edge of a deepening crisis. Budget estimates indicate a planned expenditure of KSh 4.24 trillion against projected revenues of KSh 3.32 trillion—leaving a worrying deficit of KSh 876.1 billion. The government intends to cover this gap through domestic borrowing, pushing Kenya’s public debt beyond KSh 11.35 trillion. But beyond the numbers lies a bigger concern: Are we spending on the right priorities? ⚠️ Mounting Debt, Shrinking Services The Okoa Uchumi Campaign warns that the new Finance Bill 2025 does not adequately address the reckless government spending habits. Instead of realigning resources toward crucial services, the bill appears to favor tax privileges for elite players while placing a heavier burden on ordinary Kenyans. Key proposals include: Raising tax-exempt per diem allowances for senior officials fr...
